My church callings have benefited from my artistic talents throughout the years. One calling that has been consistent is my visiting teaching calling. I help my husband by encouraging him to go home teaching and giving him fun handouts for the kids.
The official church website has a place where you can download and print the current visiting teaching and home teaching message. Click here for the Ensign and make sure you select the correct month. Then you can print the current visiting teaching and or home teaching messages [which is The First Presidency Message] out. If you click the "download" which is of course in the download column far right or which is the little green arrow pointing to a hard-drive icon instead of the title of the message; it gives you the pdf of the page and when you print the message it LOOKS so much better. I always print these out half size, and give a copy to each person I teach.
For home teaching, the first presidency message has a new "youth" and "children" section following the message that is wonderful as an activiy for the children. Be sure to print each child a copy so they can all have the message.
Don't forget while teaching whether it's visiting teaching or home teaching the different ways you can give the material. What I am working on is to not on the way out "Oh and let me share a quick quote from the message" and read a 30 second excerpt. I'm trying to apply the different teaching methods taught in Teaching, No Greater Call [Full Manual].
Now I always have a little more to give, cards, crafts, yummies. But it's all about the church approved material. This secondary fun stuff is just that, stuff. But oh what fun it is to make and what fun it is to share.
